Live today for a better tomorrow
We’re honored to share that this past Monday, April 10th following Easter, Tutera celebrated the 25thAnniversary of Founder’s Day.
Inspired by the life of our Founder, Dr. Dominic F. Tutera, Founder’s Day is a day to share our common values of family, friendship and generosity with others. Doc was an OBGYN who, every day, safely and confidently brought new life into this world while compassionately caring for his patients amidst one of life’s most vulnerable yet fulfilling times: the birth of their children.
The birth was the outcome of months, if not years, of planning and preparation with the mother-to-be, their family and the doctor all meticulously anticipating a safe delivery. Doc considered the details and consistency to be paramount with each patient, and while it took hard work, sacrifice and perseverance, the joy of a child was inevitably shared by all.
Throughout the day, we are faced with difficult and stressful tasks that are both necessary and important – but why do we continue to do them day after day? Why sacrifice today’s comfort and pleasure? Why not seek the easy path to enjoy today and not worry about tomorrow? Doc believed we do it for a better tomorrow: We sacrifice today to make a better tomorrow for ourselves, our family, our loved ones, our children and all those for whom we are responsible, including our coworkers, residents and their families.
Doc knew that each of the mothers in his care sacrificed their comfort and paused their life for the safety and security of their unborn child. Mother and family willingly sacrificed every day thereafter to ensure their child’s life was the best it could be and better than their own. This sacrifice is part of human nature, and there is no escaping it. Whether it is your child, spouse, family or pets, you will always sacrifice today’s comfort for tomorrow’s reward. This is a sacrifice that’s only amplified when it’s for those you love and trust.
The greatest personal reward is a sacrifice you make today for the benefit of others tomorrow.
Staying up all night waiting for the birth of a child can certainly be a burden, but just knowing your sacrifice comforted and consoled a vulnerable mother in her time of need also inspires great personal fulfillment.
Doc knew that if he lived life looking through the rearview mirror of regret, it would be impossible to achieve his goals. Rather, he always looked forward. He focused on making tomorrow better while also making today’s efforts rewarding and enjoyable.
I am thankful for each of our employees every day. Their efforts are instrumental in the well-being of our residents and each other and the success of the entire company. It’s my sincere hope that each day brings great satisfaction and a better tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Joe Tutera CEO, President

A Few Words About the History of Founder’s Day
Founder’s Day is a memorial to our founder Dr. Dominic “Doc” Tutera, my father. It is an opportunity to do something unexpected for others in the spirit of generosity, compassion and care as a tribute to the way Doc lived his life.
Doc started Tutera Group in 1985 while retiring from a 30-year career as an OBGYN. Being a physician was a way of life, not a career, for Doc. It was a life he loved in every way. It was about daily sacrifice, gladly given in exchange for the reward of serving others in a way only he could. He served above and beyond any standard of integrity, compassion and care expected by others – living his life by his rules of conduct, which required taking responsibility for the well-being of others, his patients and their children. Later on, this grew to include his residents and employees as well.
Doc left this legacy to help guide us and honor the company that bears his name. Twenty-five years after his passing, this legacy stands strong and proud of its culture, values and heritage – the very same values Doc lived by. These values are the essential blocks by which our company survives, grows and provides care and livelihood to thousands of residents, employees and their families nationwide.
Doc was a builder – a builder of families, relationships, values and friendships as well as buildings and businesses. Tutera Group continues to grow today, and for that, I am certain he would be very pleased. We grow to adapt and survive. We grow not just because we can, or others do, but rather because it allows us to realize his (and our) vision. His vision requires that we not only meet the standards others set for us but also strive to meet the standards we set for ourselves. If you live by those standards as Doc did, you will also make a profound, positive impact on the lives of many.
Doc instilled the same values in his company that he lived by as a physician, father, friend and coworker. Through his work, he was able to bring satisfaction and happiness to many employees, patients and residents – sometimes in small ways and sometimes in profound ways. Through Founder’s Day, we are offering something that might inspire us to make a positive impact in each other’s lives and the lives of others, just as Doc did.
Doc was a generous man, and that generosity lives on in each of us and as an organization. We are very grateful for the sacrifice each of you makes to improve the lives of others and to sustain our mission and viability.
