Community adds 38 new private suites, four couples suites, new amenities and enhanced common areas; Expands services to include skilled nursing and rehabilitation services
The expansion completes Tutera’s rental-based continuum of care model in South Johnson County
Groundbreaking to begin in September
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 8, 2014) – Tutera Senior Living & Health Care announces a $7.5 million expansion and renovation of Stratford Commons, Johnson County’s premier memory care community for seniors. The 34,000 square-foot expansion includes 38 new private suites, four couples suite, a rehabilitation gym and new dining venue, among other amenities. In addition to the expansion, Tutera will renovate the existing property. Plans call for upgrades to the dining area, kitchen and recreation areas.
Construction on the expansion and renovation is scheduled to start in September 2014 with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2015. The newly expanded single-story facility will adjoin the existing 29,000-square-foot memory care community. When construction is completed, Stratford Commons will comprise 87 private suites and four couples suites featuring large, private bathrooms, a kitchenette, built-in cabinetry, large exterior windows and high ceilings. Natural light will flood each one, and the physical design elements will ensure that everyone feels at home. In the new dining room, residents will enjoy chef-inspired, nutritious, home-style meals. And, residents can train on and recuperate from surgical procedures on Nautilus equipment specifically designed for seniors in the new rehabilitation gym.
As part of the expansion, Stratford Commons will add two additional levels of care for its residents: skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. These two new services will be provided in addition to memory care – on the existing campus at 12340 Quivira Road in Overland Park, Kansas. Tutera’s rental- based continuum of care model allows residents access to the type of care they require, when they need it, without large up-front “buy-in” costs. This rental-based model avoids the disadvantages of many “entrance-fee” Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC).
“The Stratford Commons expansion rounds out Tutera’s senior living services in South Johnson County,” said Joe Tutera, CEO of Tutera Group. “With the addition of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services, Tutera will be able to offer a full continuum of care – much like a traditional CCRC – without requiring an initial large cash outlay by residents.”
Upon completion of the expansion, Tutera Senior Living & Health Care will provide services representing a full continuum of care for seniors in Johnson County:
- Memory Care (Stratford Commons)
- Skilled Nursing (Stratford Commons)
- Rehabilitation Services (Stratford Commons)
- Independent and Assisted Living (The Atriums, Lamar Court and Rose Estates)
- Home Health (Continua Home Health)
- Hospice Care (Continua Hospice)
Residents in Tutera’s independent and assisted senior living communities throughout the Johnson County metropolitan area can now easily transition to all levels of care within the same organization – Tutera – in whom they’ve already entrusted their well-being. Residents are able to transition to and from independent living to assisted or in-home care services – or even skilled nursing care temporarily (after surgery) or long term.
